Special Stitches Definitions:

Snowflake Ornament Hat:  (All Sizes)

Use “N” (9 mm) hook, or match gauge checkpoint after Rnd 4

Note:  Complete rnd for size you are making then skip to Rnd 9.  Add stitch marker to loop around hook after completing Rnd 1 and move with each rnd.  The top of this hat is worked in continuous rnds to avoid an unsightly seam.

Rnd 1:  Magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join with sl st in first sc.  (6)
OR ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st in first sc.  (6)

Rnd 2:  2 sc in each st  to end of rnd.  (12)
Rnd 3:  [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] to end of rnd.  (18)
Rnd 4:  [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] repeat to end of rnd.  (24)
End here for 0-3 mos, continue with Rnd 9.

Gauge Checkpoint:  Diameter of circle should measure approximately 4.5” here.

Rnd 5:  [sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] repeat to end of rnd.  (30)
End here for 3-6 mos, continue with Rnd 9

Rnd 6:  [sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] repeat to end of rnd.  (36)
End here for 6-12 mos, continue with Rnd 9

Rnd 7:  [sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] repeat to end of rnd.  (42)
End here for toddler/child, continue with Rnd 9

Rnd 8:  [sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st] repeat to end of rnd.  (48)
End here for teen/adult, continue with Rnd 9

Rnd 9:  sc in ea st to end of rnd.

Repeat Rnd 9 until hat reaches measurement below:
When close to length in chart below, check circumference.
If it is not within range for size you are making, adjust hook size down as necessary.

0-3 Months:  Continue until hat measures about 4.5” from crown to brim.
3-6 Months:  Continue until hat measures about 4.5 to 5” from crown to brim.
6-12 Months: Continue until hat measures about 6 to 6.5” from crown to brim.
Toddler/child: Continue until hat measures about 6.5 to 7.5” from crown to brim.
Teen/Adult:  Continue until hat measures about 7.5 to 8” from crown to brim.

Sl st (or invisible join) in next st to end last rnd, fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Optional Edging:  Attach silver or gray yarn in any st, ch 1, sc in each st to end of rnd, use invisible join to fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Top of Ornament:
Use “I” (5.5 mm) hook and ww silver yarn.  Leave a few inches for the beginning tail end as it will be used for a loop on top of the ornament hanger.

Rnd 1:  Magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join with sl st in first sc.  (6)
Rnd 2:  2 sc in each st to end of rnd, join with sl st in first sc.  (12)
Rnd 3:  ch 1, sc in BLO of each st to end of rnd, join with sl st in first sc.  (12)
Rnd 4:  ch 2, dc in same st as ch 2 and ea st to end of rnd. join with sl st to top of ch 2.

Assembly of Hat:
Fasten off (leave 18” tail to sew on to hat with yarn needle, but do not sew on hat yet).  Take beginning tail end and thread it up through top, thread it back down through other side of top, leaving a loop about one inch long on the top (this will form the little loop on top of the ornament that the ribbon will go through).  Tie other side in a knot from bottom and fasten off, weave in ends.  Use yarn needle and long tail end to sew on to hat.  Cut a piece of ribbon about 8” long and thread it through the loop on top, tie in a double knot so that it forms a hanging loop.  Trim ends.

Snowflake Buttons:
Sew snowflake buttons randomly on front of hat for infant (or entire hat for older children/adults).
