Small Ballerina Bun Cover:

Note:  ‘ch 4’ at beg of rnd is counted as a dc (plus ch 1) in final stitch count.

Rnd 1:  Magic ring, ch 4, [dc, ch 1] in ring seven times, after last ‘ch-1’, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ‘ch-4’.  (8 dc)

Rnd 2:  sl st in ‘ch-1’ sp below, ch 4, (dc, ch 1) twice in same ‘ch-1’ sp,
(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1) in ea of next 3 ‘ch-1’ sps,
(dc, ch 1) three times in next ‘ch-1’ sp,
(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1) in ea of next 3 ‘ch-1’ sps,
after last ch-1, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ‘ch-4’.  (18 dc)

Rnd 3:  sl st in ‘ch-1’ sp below, [ch 3, sc in next ‘ch-1’ sp] repeat to end of rnd, do not join after last ‘ch-1’ sp, but continue to work in a spiral by working the next sc in the first ‘ch-3’ sp of the prev rnd.  (18 ‘ch-3’ sps)  Add stitch marker and move with each rnd.

Continue working in a spiral with (ch 3, sc in next ‘ch-3’ sp) until bun cover measures approximately 2.5 to 3” from center of magic ring to edge.  When correct height is reached, ch 3 and sl st in next ‘ch-3’ sp to end the pattern repeat section.

Fasten off and weave in ends.  Thread ribbon through holes in last rnd and tie in a bow.

    2. Thank you very much. It is just what I need for my Granddaughter for her birthday in March. I have time to make her on in every color there is. LOL (I am a Virgo I have to wear colors that match in 95% of what I wear. LOL)

  2. My granddaughter is starting ballet in 2 weeks, and a bun is required for long hair. Now, really, how can I resist making this for her? I think one in every color is in order. Thank you so much for sharing.

  4. I love this pattern for my little ballerina! Is the ribbon just for decoration or does it pull the edges tight around the bun?

    1. Thank you! The ribbon does help pull it tight around the bun. :)

    2. Thanks Jennifer, it worked out beautifully. I used a cotton yarn for the first one and will try out different yarn and ribbons for some others.

  5. This little bun net looks perfect for my little grand daughters ballet bun.. Now lets see if i can remember the names of the stitches . . . it's been a while since i've crocheted anything. Thanks for sharing though. I'll see how i go.

  6. Thanks for this! Is there a way to do this without the magic ring? e.g. chain a few stitches, close the circle and then start working into the hole? I'm still very beginner and am thinking perhaps magic ring rather a difficult one for me as yet though I know the other stitches!

  8. Just made this and it's awesome :). Took about an hour start to finish. I threaded a hair elastic through the last round as I was working it, instead of the ribbon, and it worked out great!

My kiddo needs a bun for both her classes and has super thick hair so the ones you can buy don't quite cover her hair. Thanks so much for the pattern :)

  12. My daughter started a ballet class today and I had some trouble trying to get her bun right. I saw another girl in the class with a bun cover so I did a quick search when I got home and found this pattern. I'm excited to make it and I just know it'll make getting ready next week so much easier. Thanks!
